Category: Advertising Types

Affiliate advertising is basically an online marketing channel. An advertiser pays a blogger to promote the advertiser’s products or services on the blogger’s site. There are three main types of affiliate ads: pay-per-click, pay-per-lead and pay-per-sale. Each of these affiliate ad types has one thing in common. They are all performance based meaning you don’t earn money until your readers perform an action such as clicking on a link or clicking on a link then purchasing the product on the page to which the link brings them. There are several large and well-known companies that offer affiliate programs which you can set up on your blog within minutes regardless of how well established your blog is.

Affiliate programs are efficient vehicles for purchasing online advertising because they allow the advertiser to purchase advertising on a performance basis from hundreds or thousands of publishers. One of the benefits of an affiliate program that often surprises the advertiser is that advertising is often more effective. This is because the advertiser is able to set the criteria that must be met in order for the publisher to be paid, and that criteria tend to be based on the effectiveness of the advertising.

Web sites that purchase advertising through affiliate programs often find they can do so with minimal time involvement because they don't have to try to make performance-based advertising deals. Make sure the affiliate advertising you choose works with reputable sponsors who are selling products that you would be comfortable buying yourself.
